About the Twin Cities Recorder Guild (TCRG)

The Twin Cities Recorder Guild (TCRG), based in Minneapolis-St. Paul, Minnesota, is a chapter of the American Recorder Society. It is a non-profit organization with the goal of supporting and encouraging recorder playing in our community. We provide opportunities for members to play together and to learn more about recorder playing, and we share recorder and early music with the community through performances, workshops, and a newsletter.

We have monthly meetings  (September - May) for recorder players of all ages and levels; they include group playing, a presentation by our music director or guest, socializing, and an opportunity to buy music and instruments. For summer playing opportunities, check with the president. Members occasionally organize sessions at various times over the summer. Ask for your name to be included on the notification list.

We produce a newsletter, maintain a lending library of recorder music & instruments, and sponsor recorder and early music workshops and performances.

Notice to school teachers: Members of TCRG are available to come to your school and demonstrate recorders of all sizes, answer questions, and play a variety of music in a recorder ensemble. Contact Barbara Aslakson (952-545-3178) or Jean Allison Olson.

Next Meeting:

February 28, 2016
2 - 5 pm
Olivet Congregational Church
St. Paul, Minnesota

This is our last rehearsal for our Play the Recorder Day concert. You are welcome to come to the meeting even if you do not plan to play the concert. For those who missed the January meeting but would like to practice in advance, the ARS Play the Recorder Month page has a link to the ARS official selection, "Steamed Bass and Fischmaul".

Time permitting, at the same Sunday afternoon meeting we will play an arrangement of a symphony by mid 18th-century composer William Boyce. Boyce is recognized in Western music history as one of the composers who brought the symphony into the form that would dominate music for the next 150 years from Mozart to Mahler.

Bring a music stand if you have one. Click here for more information about our meetings.
